Mumbai, Feb 28 (IANS) Actor Akash Bhathija, seen in the new show "Amita Ka Amit", says he enjoys playing negative characters as they stand out more.

"Since I have begun acting, I always wanted to play a negative character. The shade stands out more than any other character. It gives me joy and pleasure to act something which I am not," Akash told IANS.

Last seen on the big screen in "Ishaqzaade", the actor was also a part of the movie "Isi Life Mein". He said he likes to experiment with his roles.

"I want to experiment with whatever I get. In 'Isi Life Mein', I played a sweet and innocent character, and in 'Ishaqzaade' I played a north Indian goon," said the actor, who plays a positive role in "Amita Ka Amit", aired on Sony TV.

He is now working on the small screen, but films remain his first love.

"I definitely prefer films as (compared to) being in TV, as it takes up most of your time. But there is more fame and hard work in TV, and it gives better results," he said, adding that film actors have a more comfortable lifestyle.

He admits the competition in showbiz is tough, but is confident that his work will count.

"You should not take competition in a negative way. I take it as a challenge and face it. You need to be confident and have your work speak for yourself. If you get insecure, you will lose self confidence and you will not get noticed," he said.

The 20-year-old is pursuing law at the moment and is trying his best to balance his studies with work.
"I am doing law at the moment, so it is tough to manage acting and studies. I need to plan everything according to my exams. I lose out on a lot of work because of this," he said.
